Dr. Joe Richardson DMD, MS, runs a dynamic Periodontics and Implant Dentistry practice in Maitland, Fla, as well as a second location in nearby Eustis. He practiced with Dr. Harold Arthur for almost two years as his associate and took over the practice Dr. Arthur maintained of over 30 years in April of 2012.
Dr. Richardson’s practice continues to provide the highest level of patient care by combining traditional methodologies with newer, more comfortable and cutting-edge treatments. This strategy ultimately translates to less time in the chair and less discomfort.
Dr. Richardson and his wife Cyndi came to Four Quadrants in 2014 and followed our prescription for improvement. Today, his young practice is successful and only getting better. Joe and Cyndi both gave us a few minutes during their annual review to reflect candidly on the changes we made as a team this past year and what they look forward to tackling in 2016.
What brought you to us initially? What was it that got you to the point of saying “I need to work with these guys?”
Dr. Joe Richardson - I attended a Four Quadrants seminar that was offered as part of an area dental society meeting. Your representative started talking about problems Dentists commonly face, and it was almost as if he had inside information about our practice! We were making the same mistakes, and frankly I just wanted to stop making them! So we approached him to look further into what Four Quadrants could do for us.
Cyndi Richardson - We realized we were going to need their help because they had a smart plan. We just had no idea – between Joe running the practice and me doing the books and my own full-time job outside of the practice – how we were going to do that? On top of all that? We were expecting twins, so we really needed someone to help facilitate, and do so at that moment.
After you began working with us, was there a moment where you fully believed this new relationship was going to work out well?
Dr. Joe Richardson - We were seeing a ton of patients, and the practice was successful by any measure, but it just felt like we were treading water, that we weren’t progressing regarding savings. We even had all this money left over at the end of the month after we paid our bills and employees, but we didn’t have the confidence to know what to do with it. Do we pay off debt? Do we put it towards retirement. Do we do both? If so how much to each?
So when you first helped us prioritize what goes where, that’s when we really started to see a difference. The stress from indecision dropped to zero and now we’re seeing the positive results of those decisions. We’re also more efficient in how we carry out the procedures behind those decisions.
When you look back on the last year of working with us, what do you see as a highlight?
Dr. Joe Richardson - I’d say it was coming to know we had our tax situation under control. It was always sorta unclear how much we were going to owe. Four Quadrants has provided the structure where there was none. We’re not going to bed wondering if we missed something, or wondering how much we’re going to owe.
Cyndi Richardson - One thing that I really like that Four Quadrants does is send us e-mails monthly on how he did this month compared to last. That’s huge.
Dr. Joe Richardson - I value the trust we have in Four Quadrants. Having everything together where the people who were dealing with my taxes, get a question answered from my financial guys two seats over really provides the most section to the relationship. It’s just solid communication.
Last year was a great year on all levels for you and your practice. What are you looking to accomplish next year?
Dr. Joe Richardson - We want to grow continually. Four Quadrants is patient with me and are always happy to discuss potential areas of growth based on the business model we put together.
