Announcer:
Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Millionaire Dentist Podcast, brought to you by Four Quadrants Advisory. On this podcast, we break down the world of dentistry finances and business practices, to help you become the millionaire dentist you deserve to be. Please be advised, we do speak with an honest tongue and may not be safe for work.

Casey Hiers:
Hello, and welcome. This is Casey Hiers, back at the Millionaire Dentist Podcast. In-studio with co-host, Jarrod Bridgeman. How are we, sir?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Hey, that's me. I'm good. How are you?

Casey Hiers:
Thriving. Well, this is going to be a fun podcast. Do you remember back in the day when your buddy would have a T-shirt and it'd have Guns N' Roses and it'd have all their tour dates?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
And it'd have a cool logo on the front or Motley Crue or Poison. Do you remember those?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
You're going way older than me, but yes, I know what you're talking about.

Casey Hiers:
Oh, that was a shot-fired. Yeah. What music do you like?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Oh, man. Folksy, sure. Hipstery, indie rock.

Casey Hiers:
I used to love those shirts though, right? Remember you're sitting in class and you're bored and I'm looking at the cities and the dates. And by the way, apparently, Motley Crue and Poison are on tour again.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Probably.

Casey Hiers:
Their last one, they signed a contract saying this was their last one ever.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
And now, for this one or the last one before this one?

Casey Hiers:
Five years ago. I mean, apparently, contracts aren't legally binding if you're a rockstar. Anyway, I bring that up because we're doing a tour of sorts.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
We call it the ... What do we call it?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah, it's called the Learn to Master the Business Side of Dentistry Tour.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. So, we're doing something of the sort, a Four Quadrants dentist CE tour. And it's really not about the CE, it's about solving problems, but we wanted to talk about that a little bit today. Where we're going to go, maybe touch on what we're going to talk about.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Do you know what our first city is coming up?

Casey Hiers:
Hmm.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
I heard it's a nice city.

Casey Hiers:
I was waiting on your T-shirt that had all the dates and the cities on it, so I could wear it proudly. I thought you were getting a hint. So yeah, we've got a whole bunch of these. And here's the point for our audience, and tell your friends, tell your neighbors, as long as they're practice-owning dentists and specialists.

Casey Hiers:
But if you're a practice owner who has ever had a degree of concern around cashflow, around overhead, around insurance adjustments, that your hard work isn't reflected by your income. About retirement savings. About running out of money in retirement. About who might buy your practice. Can you transition out well? Any of those have ever been a concern, well, that's what we touch on during our program.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Right. So, is this, when you are speaking at these events, which we do have a mix of dinner events and some more fun events, there's a couple of Topgolfs we'll be hitting as well. Is this presentation different than, let's say, you're at a big, large state convention and you're teaching people, in an audience of 100 people?

Casey Hiers:
Yes. We have more of an academic presentation. That's one, two, or three hours long. That, yeah, at state meetings or at formal dental groups that want CE, it's a different tone. It's a different version. It's maybe a little more academic.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
So, this would be a little more...

Casey Hiers:
This is right to the point.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Okay.

Casey Hiers:
I mean, and you mentioned it, we pick out the nicest steakhouse, chophouse in town, and get a private room. But we also know that, hey, maybe some people are just going to want to go to Topgolf or go do something fun and maybe just casually learn about something. But the point is, yeah, when we do these, I'm getting right to the point, right?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
Let's get to know each other. I want to learn about your practice, but Four Quadrants Advisory, we know that the top 10, 15 issues, struggles, frustrations for practice owners.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
And why is that? Why do we know those?

Casey Hiers:
Well, we've been solving them since 2004.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Oh man.

Casey Hiers:
Man. I like these questions. I feel like-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
That's a long time.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. No, we've been solving these and we say no to practice owners more than we say yes. Meaning, we're not a volume shop. Right?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
We want to find the right people, the right mindset, the right personality. And ultimately, the numbers under the hood, the data drives, can we help them?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
And how do ... Maybe don't give us any deep and dirty secrets, but I'm Dr. Bridgeman here, dentist, DDS. I come to your dinner event. I love what you say. Oh, I'd love to cut over it. I'd love to increase my income. I'd love to increase my retirement savings. What would be the next step after that? Would you and I set up a phone call or something?

Casey Hiers:
Bingo.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Oh, hey.

Casey Hiers:
It's hey, maybe you heard something during the time-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. That really piqued my interest.

Casey Hiers:
And listen, the Wagyu filet, the seafood tower, maybe some Caymus red wine, or an old fashion.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Oh, I'll take an old fashion.

Casey Hiers:
That's all fun.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
Right? That's enjoyable. And that can be necessary. And some folks might just come for that. Now, we do charge. You have to have skin in the game. We don't want just plate lickers there, but we also want them to have a good experience. But ultimately, people are going to hear something there that might feel like a little punch to the gut. And ultimately, it's personal, it's sensitive. And so, the ask is, "Hey, if something crossed your mind, let's talk next week. Let's have a one-off phone call. Let's learn about your practice."

Casey Hiers:
And some people come to me and say, "Listen, my overhead's 60%, I'm making 800,000." But maybe they have a different frustration, concern, issue. Right? And so, that's the ask of all of this, it's basically, let's meet each other. I'm going to cover some content, some subject matter, that if we never speak again it's going to be beneficial, but perhaps we want to speak later on that month and explore.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Would you say that in this presentation, you're going to be hitting probably more emotional notes than say a clinical presentation would?

Casey Hiers:
This is not a clinical presentation. And it's interesting, a lot of dental societies and study clubs, they claim they want clinical content. And then when I speak to practice owners, they go, "Eh, I got to have my clinical CE, but ultimately, I've heard a lot of this before. I'd like to hear something different, something new."

Casey Hiers:
So, it's not clinical, but here's what it is. The clinical genius that most practice owners have and the great dental care that they provide, it's about maximizing those efforts that translates to affect your scoreboard, which is your income, your retirement savings, what you're on track for net worth at retirement. And when those three things are in line and your overhead's good and your insurance and all those things start to fall in place, all the things that piss you off, they don't bother you quite as much.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Not so much.

Casey Hiers:
They don't bother you as much.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
When you're less stressed in general, less things will bug you.

Casey Hiers:
That's right.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
That's exactly right. So, we're going to some fun cities. I mean, did we look at a map and just decide where we wanted to go? A little bit.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. And I also put up a map on a wall and threw some darts, which was nice.

Casey Hiers:
You're terrible at darts. I'm not going to Alaska, Jarrod. No, but Nashville, Tennessee, March 24th, right?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. At Kayne Prime.

Casey Hiers:
Kayne Prime, one of the best restaurants in the country, in my opinion. Kayne Prime, is unbelievable. If you don't come to our event, sometime you need to go to Kayne Prime. Their pork belly with cotton candy on top. It sounds goofy.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Oh, wow.

Casey Hiers:
It might be one of the most exciting culinary delights one can have.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Would you be willing to mail out your leftovers to a lucky winner?

Casey Hiers:
No.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
No.

Casey Hiers:
No, no, absolutely not. Yeah. Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
That's on March 31st.

Casey Hiers:
March 31st. That's right.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
At Oak Steakhouse.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
That's right. Looks like a nice menu.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Looks good.

Casey Hiers:
Here's what's consistent. The venues are strong, the private room is excellent.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
It's fully private rooms.

Casey Hiers:
Fully private. Yeah. The food and drink is great. And the content, it's things that practice owners need to hear. Again, many people come and they hear a lot of things. And for whatever reason, it might not be a fit for us to work together, which again, our business model, we work with less amount of dentists to have an incredible impact on, but they tell me, "I'm going to be calling my CPA and my financial planner and investment guy tomorrow, that the standard of care I'm receiving is not good enough."

Jarrod Bridgeman:
So, no matter what the situation is, someone's going to walk away with some valuable information.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. We're not-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Even if they don't decide, even if they-

Casey Hiers:
We're not selling timeshares here. Right? This is information that a lot of people look up and go, "Wow, I've been settling for a poor standard of care by my external team while I'm providing incredible care for my patients. And that doesn't add up." And so, if nothing else, it'll motivate people to do what? To demand more from their current team. And many times, that is a wonderful result. That's something that is very helpful and can do well.

Casey Hiers:
Many times they do that and they realize, "I'm still frustrated and maybe it's not Four Quadrants Advisory, but I need to raise the game. This is playoffs, I need to raise my game and I need to win." And so, that's what it does, because the day-to-day, practice owners are so busy. Families, kids, hobbies, patients, practice, QuickBooks, it's nonstop. So, they're in the forest, right? They're looking right at a massive tree. Where this, if nothing else, is going to give them, wow, they're going to look at the forest for a couple hours. And again, great food, great venue, nice drinks. That doesn't hurt.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Of course.

Casey Hiers:
But ultimately it's, "Hey, here's are some things that prevent practice owners from maximizing the profitability of their practice, from being all that they can be in dentistry. Let's talk about those. Let's get to the why. Let's understand them." Right?

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Casey Hiers:
And we're not going to fix anything at the event. I always get people, they want the secret sauce. They want to know how you do it. "What is it?" And I say-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Which, even if you wanted to give every little secret we have, it would take more than an hour.

Casey Hiers:
Well, we have a lot of intellectual property, number one. Number two, there is no free consulting. Number three, if I don't know, and our team doesn't know an incredible amount of detail about everyone's exact situation and practice, we've got no business trying to solve a problem. Right? Try to solve a problem with one piece of a 1,000 piece puzzle. That's arrogant.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Pretty tough.

Casey Hiers:
We don't do that. But it is funny, those people that, again, they want to know the how. And I say, "Listen, when I come to a place like this, I'm going to order a filet. I'm going to probably get two starches. I'm going to omit the vegetable."

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah, sure. Yeah.

Casey Hiers:
"Green things on my plate offend me. Maybe have a glass of wine. I'm not going back to the kitchen, wanting to understand exactly how all the preparation is. Where's the food sourced from? I just want the food." And that's what I ask people, "Do you want to make more, save more? If I told you, you had to jump up and down and chew gum to solve the problem, would you do it? Does it matter, ultimately?" Right? The question is-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
I don't think it does.

Casey Hiers:
"Do you trust the process, the people you're dealing with?"

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. And with our 20 years' experience.

Casey Hiers:
Let me get off my soap box. Sorry. You probably want to know where else we're going.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Sure.

Casey Hiers:
Las Vegas.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Hey.

Casey Hiers:
May 12th.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
May 12th is, where are we going?

Casey Hiers:
Las Vegas.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Las Vegas. That's right. And we're going to Fleming's Prime Steakhouse.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. It's interesting, I liked Las Vegas a lot in my younger years. The last couple times I've been there, I like it for different reasons.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. I went a few years ago, but I'd like to go again for, there's a haunted museum I want to go to.

Casey Hiers:
Nerd alert.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Nerd alert. May 13th, we are sticking around Vegas, but we will be hitting up Topgolf.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. For maybe those on a Thursday evening, it doesn't work out. Maybe they're already having an amazing meal and they're busy. Well, hey, let's go whack the golf ball around a Topgolf and get to know each other.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yep. And that'll be during the day. So, that's like noon to three o'clock.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. A little more casual. They've got good private rooms, but guess what? After we hit the ball, we'll talk for, I don't know, half hour, on-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
On mastering the business side of dentistry.

Casey Hiers:
There you go.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Right?

Casey Hiers:
There you go.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
I know after that, coming June 2nd and June 3rd, we're going to be in the Salt Lake City area.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. Beautiful Salt Lake City. Last I recall, it's a very clean city.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. I've never been.

Casey Hiers:
It's gorgeous.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
I'd like to go.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. So, I know on June 2nd, we'll be having dinner at Ruth's Chris there on Temple Street.

Casey Hiers:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Jarrod Bridgeman:
And then on June 3rd, which is a Friday, again, we'll be hitting up Topgolf. Now, this won't be exactly in Salt Lake City, it's in Midvale, which is a suburb outside that. It's pretty close to it.

Casey Hiers:
It's probably a nice suburb where most of the practice owners live.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yeah. Yep.

Casey Hiers:
Yeah. No, it's a lot of fun. We try to do a couple of these a month. And it comes down to this, our leadership, our owner, giving back to the dental community. Is that important? Yeah. This is underserved subject matter that needs to be talked about.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yep.

Casey Hiers:
For us, it also helps us meet a handful of good people that maybe we end up working with, but it's a mutually beneficial event. We're going to be in lot of places beyond this. We're actually going to go pick some nice golf courses too.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Oh, yeah.

Casey Hiers:
I mean, you get a nice foursome or two foursomes and you go play a nice PGA level golf course and get to spend time that way. Again, it comes down to getting to know people.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yep.

Casey Hiers:
Understanding what the frustrations are, if any. Maybe there's not, maybe they just want to achieve more, but for us, it's a lot of fun.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Well, we also have Omaha Nebraska coming up. That's June 16th and 17th. On the 16th, again, a Thursday night, we're at 801 Chophouse.

Casey Hiers:
Omaha, Peyton Manning, audible, Omaha.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
And then on June 17th, we're at Topgolf. Again, Omaha, Peyton Manning.

Casey Hiers:
He will not be there. Sorry, we should-

Jarrod Bridgeman:
[crosstalk 00:13:34].

Casey Hiers:
Yeah.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Is there any Mannings going to be there?

Casey Hiers:
No.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
For both July and August, I'm putting the final touches on exactly when and where we're going to be.

Casey Hiers:
We'll be releasing those options shortly.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
We will be. If you want to keep up with where we're going to be, if you want to come visit us, go to fourquadrantsadvisory.com/events. And that will be updated regularly. And there is a form in case you want to be like, "Hey." Shoot me an email. I don't want to have to check it every other day. Just fill out the little form and I'll send you an email and be like, "Hey, we're right next door to you."

Casey Hiers:
A little learning, a little fun.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
A little learning.

Casey Hiers:
And yeah, it seems like people are ready to interact with one another.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Get out of the house.

Casey Hiers:
Oh, I had this conversation this morning. There's seasons of everything, but right now, people are a little more open to some face-to-face interaction.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yep. I feel people are ready to ... Everybody's getting cabin fever. Tired of sitting at home. Weather's getting nice again. It was 60-something degrees today and you can tell just people are happier. My kids woke up just in a better mood. I was in a better mood. I think people are ready to learn and start doing things again.

Casey Hiers:
Oh, I'm waiting on that T-shirt, Four Quadrants dinner tour, dinner golf tour. Dates.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
Yes.

Casey Hiers:
Cities. A cool logo.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
You know what? I'll do that and I'll post it on Facebook for everybody.

Casey Hiers:
There we go.

Jarrod Bridgeman:
All right. Thank you.
