Casey Hiers:

Hello and welcome. This is Casey Hiers back at the Millionaire Dentist podcast in studio with co-host Jarrod Bridgeman.

Jarrod Bridgeman:

Hey, good morning.

Casey Hiers

Good morning.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Cut you off there? My bad.

Casey Hiers

So I don't know if you watched any sports recently, but the Ryder Cup golf tournament just occurred and the United States won a record setting fashion. Are you familiar with the Ryder Cup?

Jarrod Bridgeman

I'm mildly. Can you? I know it's a golf thing.

Casey Hiers

Golf. America's 12 12 best golfers against Europe's 12 best golfers. It was at Whistling Straits this year. I had the opportunity to go.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Oh, nice.

Casey Hiers

And the United States won record-setting fashion. And there's a, it was fascinating to watch. Beautiful backdrop. Beautiful course.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Let me ask you, does it, so it's how often does this cup happen?

Casey Hiers

Typically every two years. Because of Covid, it's been three years. The United States hadn't done really, really well. So a really fun event. Amazing golf. Amazing golf course.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Does it flip back and forth between like here and Europe?

Casey Hiers

Yup. It's in Rome in two years. Yeah, that's exactly right. It flips back and forth. We had a young team, but definitely a bucket list thing. It was fascinating, though, to watch these golfers. When you watch them on TV, you see these guys just hitting amazing shots, right. Throwing darts on the green.

Jarrod Bridgeman

You see the lone guy with his club.

Casey Hiers

Yeah. So here's what I noticed and here's what I wanted to talk about. As I'm watching these golfers come up and play great golf. And then they go to the next hole. And there are dozens of people who are inside the ropes with these golfers. And what resonated with me is the team that it takes for these guys. Right? When you watch it on TV, if you watch a Dustin Johnson or a Jordan Spieth or, you know, it's the best in the world, all you see is them golfing.

Jarrod Bridgeman

You see them maybe a caddy in the background.

Casey Hiers

Correct. And it really resonated. There is a full team. You've got your family, but you have they have there's multiple swing coaches. They have their physical therapy people stretching, chiropractic, their caddy. There are dozens of people behind these guys helping their success. And that translates to us because we know here the top one percent of practice owners, the top one percent that achieve the most. It is not only about their internal team, but it's about their external team. And it resonated with me something fierce.

Jarrod Bridgeman

It makes you think that having natural talent is great, but it only gets you so far.

Casey Hiers

And here's what was incredible. It started to rain a little bit. And I'm trying to relight my cigar. And I'm finding a little bridge to stand under for that 20, 30 minutes that it rained. And I'm looking at the putting green and Bryson DeChambeau, which is one of the top golfers in the world. He's on the putting green in the rain and he's working on his game. But he had somebody holding an umbrella for him. He had somebody. There were three people around him as he's working on his putting. And it just comes back to the best in the world at whatever you do. It takes a team. It takes a village. And I knew that theoretically. But seeing it this past weekend at the Ryder Cup, seeing how many people are involved and Jordan Spieth does a good job of thanking all those people.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Yeah.

Casey Hiers

When he wins. But most don't. And to me, just tuning in, you just see the golfer, maybe the caddy. There are so many people behind the scenes. And for our listeners, those that are massively successful, those that work with our firm, they know that that there is a huge team. You have your internal team. But here you have your external team that are helping you with every little detail. Right. So that you can perform at a high level and it and it rings true in every aspect of life.

Jarrod Bridgeman

The average viewer lets you know, as you know, I am not an avid golf watcher player by any means. You're right. I only see the lone golfer. I feel that the outside perspective is the same for people who are not involved in dentistry. I go I get a filling, I go get my teeth cleaned, whatever the case is. I just see the dentist maybe, you know, and maybe the hygienist, the caddy, you know that way. It's interesting to see what all happens behind the scenes, how much work is put in by other people. And now when I see a successful dentist driving a really nice car, having a nice house and all that stuff, in my mind I was like, well, that one person is awesome.

Jarrod Bridgeman

The incredible amount of work that it takes. Right. You start to appreciate that more. And that happened, you know, this past weekend for me. On a golf course, but again, making parallels to the real world. Regardless of what you do, you need a team, you need help. You need people to hold the umbrella. You need people to shag the golf balls. Right. You need people to look at your cash flow. You need people to help with your tax management. You need to make sure your overhead is lower. And these are massively successful golfers and they are humble enough to know they need a team. Think about how many practice owners that are trying to do all of it.

Jarrod Bridgeman

That's what I was going to ask you, what do you think is the fear? Why wouldn't a golfer or a dentist or anybody else that's in a position where they're the kind of lead, why wouldn't why would they be scared to get a team behind them?

Casey Hiers

Ignorance or pride.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Ignorance or pride. So what do you mean by that? Those sometimes can go hand in hand, I think, too.

Casey Hiers

Yeah, I, I think having an awareness, you know, some people think that they just have to do it. Right? The dynamic is the high achieving fill-in-the-blank who does everything and there's a pride component where they don't think they need the help. And we've talked about this before. Tiger Woods, he had the best seven-year stretch in the history of golf. He had multiple coaches and a whole team. And so the best in the world or the top one percent in dentistry, they realize it. And so the ignorant don't realize it. They just and I don't say that as an insulting term. They literally just aren't aware. They just think that they have to do it all. The ones that know that they need help but are too prideful to seek it. So those are the two reasons. Right. And so those that aren't aware need to be aware, those that are aware to put the pride away. Right. We talk about it all the time. Clients who who who their income is, what most people collect or produce. And they sought us out. And we help them then achieve 60, 70, 80 percent more income. They were doing great. Right. And so, again, so many parallels that I saw. But even sitting on the signature par three. Right, it's a two hundred and thirty-three-yard par three with water to the left, nowhere to bailout. How in the world do you do that? Great golfers will go up to that tee box and screw up that shot, even though they have the skill to do it. There's strategy involved. There's so much so many components that go into it, and not just a physical on the strategy part, but the emotional. A lot of these people, they have psychologists to help the mental aspect of the game and really high-performing people, they need leadership. Right? That's one thing our firm helps provide. We help that leadership aspect. And hopefully, our listeners are getting it somewhere. But that's very important.

Jarrod Bridgeman

You know, I'm not going to say that we're psychologists here, but I will say, as you said, the golfers have that that same kind of psychologist thing is when you had that team helping you, that's also really beneficial to your mental health. That's less stress on your mind and on your emotional well-being to have to focus on that kind of stuff.

Casey Hiers

Those golfers need to focus on a couple of things, and that's their swing and their technique and their actual golf game. They don't have the capacity to think about too many other things. Same thing with dentistry. You need to focus on your patient and you need to focus on executing the dentistry that you're providing. And while all this high-tech technology is great in dentistry and the same thing in golf, the equipment's gotten better. But it's still hasn't changed that dynamic of the focus that you need. And if you have people who can minimize distractions and help master areas that you need mastered because you're you're so focused on what you're doing, that's where massive success happens. And it just resonated so much with me seeing two dozen people behind a couple golfers and realizing, wow, who are all these people? Well, their family, their spouses, and their team. And they are a big part of while they are wildly successful, those guys won 19 to 9. Record-Breaking, you know, victory for the United States against Europe and a golf match on one of the hardest courses in the country.

Jarrod Bridgeman

Take that Europe.

Casey Hiers

But, you know, those boys just didn't roll up there right. There's a lot of really good golfers out there. And if they went there without a team, they would embarrass themselves horribly, horribly.

Jarrod Bridgeman

And it makes me think, you know, other sports where it's like a lone man or a woman, NASCAR race car driving everybody, every one of these things. They have a team of people backing them up.

Casey Hiers

Well, listen, let's just get straight forward to the message. If you're listening out there, don't be prideful. Right. Have a team, not just the ones that you are helping you in your office, but outside of your office. And again, Tiger Woods had many coaches. Some of his coaches weren't hitting the mark, and so he had to move on. A lot of practice owners out there, they have an external team. They have people helping them, but they settle. Yeah. Right. We have those conversations. Well, I really like them. Are they achieving as much as you need them to achieve for you? And from a dentist's perspective, is your overhead where you want it? Is your tax management where you want it? Is your income where you want it? If not, why? But just an incredible parallels with who we help every day. The practice owner. Right. Right. And what it takes to really, really achieve more. And I just wanted to hop on and talk about that briefly.

Jarrod Bridgeman

That was fun.

Casey Hiers

Well, I'll tell you what, the Ryder Cup was a blast. If you saw the press conference afterwards, they didn't know they were doing press. So Xander Schafly smoking a cigar. They're all enjoying some adult beverages, getting a little loose-lipped. A couple of the teammates, they grabbed the mics from each other because they were saying things they shouldn't say. Right. But in victory comes joy and you get a celebrate. And, you know, there are so many practice owners that maybe don't experience that victory they want and they're just bogged down by these things. And again, be aware of it and put the pride away, and get better. But, man, the Ryder Cup was great. A lot of USA chants and for chants and for our listeners out there, you know, again, learn something from the best golfers in the world. It takes a team. While there may be a stud golfer, they need help. While you may be a stud practice owner, you need help.

Jarrod Bridgeman

That's right. Thanks, Casey.

Casey Hiers

All right, man.
