Hello, everyone. Welcome to The Millionaire Dentist Podcast brought to you by Four Quadrants Advisory. On this podcast, we break down the world of dentistry finances and business practices to help you become the millionaire dentist you deserve to be. Please be advised, we do speak with an honest tongue, and may not be safe for work. Now, here's your host, Alan Berry.

Alan Berry:

Hey everyone. Welcome to The Millionaire Dentist Podcast. This podcast is brought to you by Four Quadrants Advisory. I'm Alan Berry. And with me in the studio are Jason Smith and Brogan Baxter, CEO and COO at Four Quadrants Advisory.

Alan Berry:

Jason, Brogan, how are you two doing today?

Jason Smith:

Great, thanks.

Brogan Baxter:

Excellent, thank you.

Alan Berry:

Excellent. So, this is our first podcast, so maybe we should start at the beginning of how this all kind of came together. Jason, let's start with you. Tell me a brief overview of how this came to be.

Jason Smith:

Sure. I was fortunate enough that I grew up in a family of dentists. My grandfather and uncle both practiced and had a opportunity growing up to visit with many of their friends. You'll find with dentistry, which is great, 95 plus percent of them are just great people. And was fortunate enough, after college, to get a job as a territorial sales rep for a big dental distributorship, where I learned about the chairs, the products, the equipment, and all that stuff.

Jason Smith:

And I was fortunate because my first job took me to the South. And, as I tell people, even in my territory, it's just not quite as fast. People spend more time with you. And I probably got more time with dentists than maybe some people with my comparable job would have, for example, North of Chicago. And I learned a lot, but what I really took away was I had enough dentists say to me, "How can I make 400,000 bucks a year, and I can't pay my taxes, let alone save for retirement." And that's when the light really started going on with me. And I started thinking to myself, "What the hell is going on here? Where's the disconnect?"

Alan Berry:

Interesting. Brogan, what about yourself?

Brogan Baxter:

Well, my story came from right out of school. Met Jason through my father. He told me about his vision for the company. This is before it started. It sounded very, very intriguing to me. Business model sounded amazing. Having everything under one roof really was something that really could provide a lot of opportunity out there. So, I've been here from the beginning, going what? 14, 15 years ago. Been here since pretty much day one. And helped the company grow from when it was just the two of us, now to our size now. And worked my way up to chief operating officer now. And I'm kind of a numbers guy that doesn't really like sales. But it fits a real good need for me right now.

Alan Berry:

Excellent. So, with this being our first episode, maybe we should talk about some topics, something that the listeners can expect to come in the future. Have you guys talked about what you want to talk about?

Jason Smith:

We've talked about that when we can talk about a lot of topics, but the thing that really is on my mind right now is I want the average dentist out there to understand that corporate dentistry isn't sinking them. I mean, frankly, there's a lot of fear mongering about that right now. And, though, there are some things that are of validity, as far as, is that getting in the way of you making a ton of money, and becoming a multi millionaire in dentistry? The answer is no, it's bullshit. And it's fear mongering, it's an excuse.

Jason Smith:

And we have a ton of dentists, who have gotten rid of PPO plans and are saving way over $100,000 a year with their eyes shut for retirement alone. And dentistry is still just an incredible, incredible industry and what a great profession, if you're able to delegate and get the right help.

Alan Berry:

Brogan, what about you? What do you think some of our upcoming topics should be?

Brogan Baxter:

Well, I'm going to go bigger picture there.

Alan Berry:

Okay.

Brogan Baxter:

So, we're not going to talk about mutual funds. We're talking about saving a bunch of money, but we're not talking about mutual funds. We're talking about how to run your practice better. Talking about equipment. We're talking about making better decisions. We're talking about surrounding yourself with a good team. We're talking about a lot of stuff that dentists really don't understand. They've never been taught. And they won't be taught that until they, in my opinion, kind of go through this learning process of these podcasts. We're going to talk about everything. Some of them we're going to do ourselves. Some we're going to have other team members. Sometimes we'll have some guest expert speakers here talking about everything dental. Trends, equipment, you name it.

Jason Smith:

Hey, Alan, one time I talked about a mutual fund in front of a spouse of a dentist and she fell asleep. So, I never did it again. Though we have millions and millions under management, I don't talk about investments anymore. It scarred me for life.

Alan Berry:

Hey, it looks like that's all the time we have today. Thank you, Jason and Brogan for your insights. And thank you everyone for joining us today.
