Robert Mattern

I graduated in 1958, went into the Air Force for two years. And I always felt like that was a wonderful experience for me because when you get out of school, you may think you know it all, but I didn't. I think that was a real great experience, it improved my abilities and my skills. If you like dentistry, which I always did, and I think you surely should enjoy the journey, but you want to be thinking about the future too, and towards retirement, and you want to be able to prepare for it. Let's see, well it'll be 61 years next month. And we'd been going together about six years before that, so we've been together 67 years.

I worked part-time in the dentist's office and I loved it. And I love the patients and loved working for my husband. And I retired when he retired.

Dr. Robert Mattern:

I guess in thinking about it, I couldn't come up with much regrets. I used to sometimes think about, what would I rather be doing than doing this? Would I want to be working in construction, or working at whatever? And I could never think of anything else I'd rather be doing. So I guess I felt like that I was in the right place where I was meant to be.

I go back with Four Quadrant to when they pretty much started. To see that business grow from what it was then to now, spread clear across the United States and having many employees, it's nice to see the success that they've had. And certainly, the way our finances have been handled by them, making it very easy and pleasant for retiring and knowing that we are well taken care of and no need to worry about anything, financially, is just a blessing.
